New Business Submission Deadline for August 1, 2020 Effective Dates


Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network underwriting policy requires a 21-calendar day lead time for new business. However, Action Benefits strongly suggests submitting new business by the 8th of the month to accommodate any necessary follow-up requests for missing or incomplete information.

 

Healthy Blue Achieve, Healthy Blue Living, and plans with consumer-directed funding arrangements require a 45 day minimum lead time. We recommend submitting these cases 50 days prior to the desired effective date.

Group Wide Change Deadline for September 1, 2020 Effective Dates


The BCBSM and BCN underwriting policies require a 45-day lead time for benefit changes, and a 30-day lead time for maintenance changes.

 

Group wide changes vary greatly, and can be processed using a number of different methods, depending on the changes being made. Action Benefits recognizes that many changes can be executed within a shorter timeframe than required by the underwriting policies. However, adequate lead time is necessary to ensure that changes are completed by the desired effective date, so members can receive the appropriate benefits when seeking services. Appropriate lead time also helps to allow adequate time for follow-up requests for missing information or required documentation
